Figure 1 Student Data 2008/09

The proportion of graduates who are unemployed has increased slightly. The market for students remained competitive in the reporting period 2008/9. Employers are keen to recruit graduates with high level skills high academic achievement, good and effective communicators. Evidence suggests that for the reporting period 2007/8 employment in the land based sector, although competitive, has been protected somewhat compared with other areas of employment.

Favourable employment prospects in the early part of 2008 and then the change in the economic climate in autumn 2008, resulted in fewer students opting to travel in this reporting period. 2007/8 sees the lowest year for students travelling in the last 10 years. Evidence in the Careers Service suggests that in the reporting period 2008/9 this trend could be reversed.
