Where do Harper Adams students go after leaving Higher Education?
What our 2006/7 graduates were doing six months after completing their studies:
The data below shows the proportion of what all our students (degree and sub-degree) were doing:
| 2006/07 | 2005/06 | 2004/05 | 2003/04 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Students in Employment | 64% | 59% | 62% | 65% |
| Students in Further Study | 10% | 18% | 16% | 15% |
| Students in Employment and Further Study | 17% | 12% | 9% | 10% |
| Unemployed and Seeking Work or Study | 0.5% | 2% | 3% | 3% |
| Students not available for work or study | 6% | 8% | 9% | 6% |
| Other | 2.5% | 1% | 1% | 1% |
There has been a decrease in the number of students continuing their studies compared with the previous year. This includes those students continuing their Foundation Degree/HND at Harper Adams and other institutions. This has mainly been attributed to the increase number of vacancies and career opportunities available to students studying land based courses. On 11th March 2008 ,as we held the Careers Fair the Harper Adams careers website had 50 more vacancies than at the same point in 2007.
The proportion of graduates who are unemployed continues to remain low.
The numbers of students not seeking to enter work or study are mainly those who have taken time out to travel. Our figures for these students would be above the national average however we have seen a decline in this number mainly due to the buoyant labour market for students studying our courses.
Those students in employment and further study have remained constant over the last few years. These students are mainly continuing professional qualifications related to their job: RICS/ APC; Institute of Marketing; PGCE; BASIS and AMTRA.
