Teaching
The Business Management and Marketing Department offers a number of taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The courses range from Foundation Degree through undergraduate Honours Degrees to MSc's and MBA's. PhD's are also supported by members of the department.
The Business Management and Marketing Departments course portfolio comprises a mixture of specialist courses relating to agriculture, food and the rural economy as well as a range of generic business courses. While the former appeal to students intending entering employment in the rural sector the latter are designed to appeal to anyone with an interest in working in a managerial role or setting-up their own business.
The teaching on the Business Management and Marketing courses is undertaken by individuals who in many cases have extensive industrial experience and who are actively engaged in research and consultancy on behalf of the college. As such, the teaching is highly relevant to the issues faced by contemporary business which, when combined with the skills attained while on placement, make our students highly employable after graduation.
The standard of teaching provided at Harper Adams University College was acknowledged recently when the Higher Education Funding Council for England awarded us a £1.8m grant to establish a Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning which is known as Aspire. Further recognition of the high standard of our teaching has been provided by the Quality Assurance Agency with the award of a "broad confidence" verdict in our most recent inspection.
We were particularly pleased to learn that in the 2009 National Student Survey Harper Adams received an overall satisfaction rating of 92 per cent - keeping it among the top rated universities in the UK! With 92 per cent, Harper Adams has not only improved on the 90 per cent rating it gained in 2008, but is well ahead of the average English score of 81 per cent.
As well as the welcoming attitude of the staff comprising the Business Management and Marketing Department students are attracted to our courses by:
- the outstanding employment record of our students
- the placement year
- the opportunities for part-time work
- a comprehensive calendar of social and sporting events
- the opportunity to study languages and to undertake study abroad
- excellent resources including a state-of-the-art Learning Resources Centre
- the excellent quality of the teaching provision
- low staff student ratios which allow support for students on a one-to-one basis
- and the idyllic rural location which provides a safe environment in which to live and study
