Great News on Finance!

The Student Loans Company will apply 0% interest on Student Loans from 1 September 2009 - 31 August 2010, across the UK.

If you plan to take out a Student Loan with The Student Loans Company for the next academic year, or if you have an outstanding student loan taken out after September 1998, please read on...

The 0% interest rate applies to both maintenance loans and tuition fee loans in the current and next academic year. What's more, the repayment threshold will stay at £15,000 for the next 12 months, which means you don't have to pay anything back until you are in employment and earning more than £15,000. Harper Adams University College strongly recommends responsible borrowing so please only borrow what you need. If you require further information, please visit www.studentloanrepayment.co.uk or contact Harper Adams' Registry Office by email admissions@harper-adams.ac.uk or by phone on 01952 815000.

We hope this eases some of the financial pressures for a while and good luck with your studies.

Living and study costs

You should probably budget for the following costs during your first year of study if you are living in a catered hall of residence. These are approximate costs, so you may spend more or less, depending, for instance, on which hall you live in, your social life, and so on.

Accommodation £4,200
Damage deposit (returnable)£100
Key deposit£30
Student Union fee£95-£380(depending on length of course)
Books/materials£320
Clothes£320
Socialising£800
Travel£480
Total£6,345(approx)

First years living in private accommodation will not pay a key deposit but they will pay an additional £125 campus fee (this is included in the accommodation charge for students living in managed accommodation). However, unlike many other universities, car parking and attendance at your graduation ceremony is free.

After the first year your living costs may reduce slightly as you live in cheaper, private accommodation in the surrounding area. You should probably budget for about £5,000 living costs each year.
