What financial support is available?

Student from England

For full-time higher education courses there are no upfront costs, and the main types of financial help you can get are:

Dates for your diary

  • 14 December 2011 - Student Finance England applications open
  • 31 May 2012 - deadline for new students to submit applications
  • 29 June 2012 - deadline for continuing students to submit applications

Tuition Fee Loan - covers the full amount you are charged for tuition fees. The amount that you can borrow does not depend on household income. The Government pays this money directly to Harper Adams.

  • You don't have to pay for your course upfront yourself
  • Only start paying back when you are earning over £21,000 per year

Maintenance Grant - to help with accommodation, food, travel and other living costs. The money is paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term.

  • Subject to household income
  • These grants do not have to be repaid

Maintenance Loan - to help with accommodation, food, travel and other living costs. The money is paid directly into your bank account at the start of each term.

  • The amount you can borrow depends on where you live while you are studying and your household income
  • A loan of up to £5,500 will be available if you live away from home
  • A loan of up to £4,375 will be available if you live with your parents
  • Amount depends on how much Maintenance Grant you receive (the lower the maintenance grant the higher the loan)
