Help from Harper Adams
We offer an ever-increasing range of scholarships, which are all cash awards and do not have to be paid back.
National Scholarship Programme (NSP)
In 2012/13, Harper Adams University College will award £3,000 to each of 50 full time equivalent students in the first year of study only.
In order to be considered for an NSP award, you must be ordinarily resident in England, have a declared household income of £25,000 or less, undertake at least 30 credits of study and demonstrate high levels of academic achievement.
In order for the University College to determine eligibility for the limited number of awards available, students who meet the domicile and household income criteria will be ranked in terms of their educational attainment, illustrated as follows:
| Rank Order Group | ‘A’ level grades | BTEC National Diploma grades | International Baccalaureate score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | A*, A*, A* | D*, D*, D* | 35 |
| 2. | A*, A*, A | D*, D*, D | 35 |
| 3. | A*, A, A | D*, D, D | 35 |
| 4. | A, A, A | D, D, D | 35 |
| 5. | A, A, B | D, D, D | 35 |
Other qualifications not listed above, will also be considered on a case by case basis by the University College, as will the circumstances of mature students who may not have been in education for some time.
As no more than 50 NSP awards will be made in 2012/13, where necessary the University College will also take into account AS levels, GCSEs and other qualifications if, for example, more than 50 students achieved the requirements of Rank Order Group One.
The University College will advise students in August and September 2012 whether they will receive an NSP award, provided that household income information and qualification results are known. It is not necessary for any student to apply for an NSP award as the University College will normally have all the information it requires in order to make decisions about which students will receive awards.
NSP award holders will receive a £3,000 reduction in the cost of on-campus residential accommodation in the 2012/13 academic year only. This will be deducted from the student’s accommodation charge on a termly basis. If an NSP award holder is not resident in on-campus accommodation in 2012/13, the student will receive a fee waiver of £3,000, reducing the cost of tuition fees to £6,000 in 2012/13 only.
Full time NSP students who continue their studies with Harper Adams University College in 2013/14 and beyond will receive a scholarship of £1,000 in each subsequent year of study, except the sandwich placement year, provided that the household income of that student remains £25,000 or less and the student remains in full time study.
If an NSP student changes from full time study in 2012/13 to part time study in any subsequent year(s) or a student is admitted to a part time programme at Harper Adams University College in 2012/13 and is selected for an NSP award, they will receive a fee waiver which is proportionate to their full time study load. For example, a student studying 30 credits of study in 2012/13 will be eligible for a fee waiver of £750, while a student studying 60 credits (0.5 FTE) will be eligible for a fee waiver of £1,500. Part time NSP students who continue their studies in 2013/14 and beyond will receive a scholarship in each subsequent year of study, proportionate to their full time study load, provided that the household income of that student remains £25,000 or less.
Please note that government regulations mean that NSP awards are not available to students ordinarily resident in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, while part time students and European Union (EU) nationals are not eligible for the maintenance element of an NSP award.
Students in receipt of an NSP award can also apply, if eligible, for the Harper Adams family scholarship, but they will not be considered for the £1,000 Harper Adams means tested scholarship.
Means Tested Scholarship
All new students commencing studies on the first year of an undergraduate programme in the academic year 2012/13, will be awarded an annual non-repayable scholarship of £1,000 provided that they have a household income of £25,000 or less and are not in receipt of a National Scholarship Programme (NSP) award.
Scholarships will be paid to students, by cheque or BACS, in two equal instalments. The first payment will be made in February and the second payment in May.
If you receive a scholarship in the first year of study, you will continue to receive a scholarship for the remaining years of study at Harper Adams University College, provided that you remain registered on a full time/sandwich course and continue to meet the criteria for the award of a scholarship. Students will not normally be eligible for a scholarship during the sandwich placement year.
Please note that your household income must be verified by Student Finance and you must also give your consent to share your financial information with the University College. In addition, you must also be means tested for student finance purposes.
Students in receipt of a means tested scholarship can also apply, if eligible, for the Harper Adams family scholarship. Students are not eligible, however, to receive both a means tested scholarship and NSP award.
Family Scholarship
In the academic year 2012/13, any new student admitted to a full time undergraduate programme who has a brother or sister also currently registered on a full time programme with the University College will be entitled to a £500 reduction in the cost of on-campus residential accommodation or to a £500 fee waiver if resident in off-campus accommodation.
The scholarship will be awarded upon receipt of evidence confirming the brother/sister relationship (for example, copy of a birth certificate) and notification of the brother/sister being registered on a full time programme with the University College in 2012/13 (for example, student ID number). The scholarship must be claimed within three months of registration with the University College in 2012/13.
