Current staffing of the Crops Department consists of a Head of Department, three Readers, nine Lecturers/Senior Lecturers, one Researcher, a Business Development Manager and a Commercial Trials Manager supported by five Field Trials Personnel.
Staff are responsible for the teaching of crop science, crop production and conservation on the range of courses offered by the College. As the courses are all sandwich and much of the research is funded commercially, links with industry and the professions are strong. Members of staff have developed a wide range of short courses for the agricultural industry in addition to the full-time provision, often based on their research interests. New courses are under active development.

Financial support for most of this work has been obtained from the agri-food industry, Government, and levy bodies.
In addition to the central laboratories, facilities include a dedicated, purpose-built research centre with modern field laboratory facilities; a glasshouse complex; a suite of four controlled environment chambers, and field trials currently exceeding 40 ha with over 5,000 plots of various crops.
