Borrowing

Your library card must be used in order to borrow any material. Just scan your ID card on the self service units and put the books in the large slot and follow the onscreen instructions. Please ensure that all items are issued to you before you leave as there is a security system in operation.

There are three loan categories:

  • Short Loan - these are items that are in very high demand and are only issued for 24hrs or less. You can have two short loan items at any one time.
  • Week Loan - these can be borrowed for one week.
  • Long Loan - these can be borrowed for three weeks.

Undergraduate students may borrow up to twelve items, plus two items from the short loan collection. Postgraduate students and staff may borrow up to twenty items. If you log in to My Account on the Library Catalogue, you can check how many items you have on loan and when they are due back.

Click on the 'renew' button. Details of renewed items due date is displayed, together with details of any unsuccesful renewals.

Reservations

All borrowers may reserve up to ten items (week or long loans). To place a reservation, find the item on the OPAC, then click on the Request button and follow the instructions. To see if the reserved item is available to you, log in to My Account on the OPAC using your borrower number and PIN. When the item is available it will say waiting collection. You will receive an e-mail notification advising we have the item for you. Reserved items are kept for three days. If you no longer need an item you have reserved, you can cancel the reservation from the My Account screen on the OPAC.

Bookings for Short Loan items must be made at the Welcome Hub.
