Learning Facilities At Harper Adams

Equipping you for success

We are renowned for the quality of our learning and teaching, which combines academic work with hands-on experience. From the state-of-the art Bamford Library and working farm to the new Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, the facilities at Harper Adams just get better. A new molecular biology laboratory has joined our up-to-date science complex, the Engineering Design Centre provides all the latest technology, and a Companion Animal House has boosted our comprehensive veterinary nursing facilities.

Our top quality learning and teaching resources are ideally suited to undergraduate, postgraduate and research level work and were praised during the last Quality Assurance Agency assessment.

Bamford Library

The modern, eco-friendly library represents a significant investment in the future of all our students. The building, in the centre of the campus, is designed to be conducive to study and houses a wide range of learning resources and services. A computer controlled natural ventilation system and automatic lighting that responds to the light levels outside makes the library an environmentally friendly addition to the University College.

Library services

The library offers access to around 50,000 books and 900 current journal titles. The electronic information resources also include databases and journals which can be accessed through the library web pages. These pages provide access to the library catalogue, details about the library's services and resources plus links to useful websites. A range of study facilities include group study rooms and a silent study room. Sessions on using the library's resources are provided to all first year students. Refresher sessions are held for final year students to assist them with their dissertations. An enquiry desk is staffed to assist with any information needs students may have.

In addition, the Students' Union provides an ordering facility for new books.

Student computing facilities

Information and communications technology plays an increasingly important role in society and this is true at Harper Adams. The computer facilities and support services are continuously being improved and upgraded to provide students with the best opportunities for learning, completing assignments and contacting staff and other students. The Bamford Library provides top quality computer access around the clock. There are plenty of up-to date computers available on the first floor, and more than 70 more powerful workstations in the Engineering Design Centre (EDC).

Using Windows XP Pro, a wide range of the latest software is available for word-processing, spreadsheet analysis and presentations, database work, e-learning and statistical analysis. There are specialised packages for agricultural, engineering, science, business and educational studies, and statistical and commercial software.
