Easter School
Hands on experience in the Laboratory at Harper Adams Easter School
The 2008 Easter School run at Harper Adams was for local gifted & talented year 10 pupils. The aim of the event was to promote science at higher education. The students explored the application of biology, chemistry and physics to real life situations such as how food is produced efficiently, and the environmental use of land.
Taught in small groups by either university lecturing staff or research students, the sessions were a combination of practical investigation and discussion, in the laboratories, outside on the farm and the wider estate. Each workshop posed a problem that the students discussed and examined possible solutions. Based on teamwork students presented their ideas from the workshops in PowerPoint presentations to their parents, who were invited to attend.
Previous years Easter School workshops included:
- Animal Sciences: How much bacon to the pound?
- Pitch n' Bounce 4x4 Physics
- Forensic Ecology: Part 1 The Evidence
- Diseases! Micro-organisms
