  • Cereal Fusarium recognition in vitro.
  • Appreciation of research advances.

Soil Structure Management

Course content:

  • Soil structure requirements.
  • Use of field tests to assess and understand compaction.
  • Machinery and soil management to achieve objectives.
  • Soil hall demonstration of tillage equipment.
  • Recent developments in soil management including soil pest control.
  • Integration of soil management objectives with agronomic objectives.

Aphid Management In Arable Crops

Course content:

  • Effects of aphids on plants.
  • Life cycles of aphids and transmission of viruses.
  • Biology, recognition and control of aphids of potatoes, sugar beet, cereals and oilseed rape.
  • Insecticide resistance in aphid populations.

Nematode Management In Arable Crops

Course content:

  • Effects of nematodes on plants.
  • Life cycles of cyst and free-living nematodes.
  • Biology, recognition and control of nematode pests of potatoes, sugar beet, cereals and oilseed rape.
  • Integration of cultural and chemical control methods.

Grassland Management

Course content:

  • Control of grazing.
  • Grass and weed identification.
  • Major pests and diseases and their control.
  • Weed control.
  • Use of fertilisers and manures.

Qualification

Each course carries 5 CPD points for the BASIS Professional Register
