Student Profile - Alison Gent
I’m glad I chose to study my course at Harper Adams because it is a small university and I like knowing everyone, and also because the Countryside Management course is second to none.
Alison Gent BSc (Hons) Countryside Management
Alison Gent, from Gloucestershire, is in the final year of a foundation degree in Countryside Management. The 23-year-old, who took a gap year before coming to university, was attracted to Harper Adams because of its countryside location: “I love the great outdoors. It is a small university and I like knowing everyone. And also because this course is second to none!”
The National Trust, which has a wide range of popular properties across Shropshire, offered Ali the ideal work placement – as an assistant warden at Attingham Park, an elegant 18th-century mansion with a deer park. “I got involved with hedge laying and planting, stock fencing, gate hanging, and tractor driving. Placement gives you a year’s valuable hands-on experience in the area you choose to study, and also introduces you to new people."
