Student Profile - Emma Parry

My course offers great prospects for a future in food. Harper Adams is highly thought of in the industry.

Emma Parry, from North Wales, is a fourth-year, studying BSc (Hons) Agri- Food Marketing with Business Studies. She chose Harper Adams for a number of reasons: “I liked the small campus community, student life, and the sound of my course, which I chose to keep my agricultural background involved with my future, and because it offers great prospects for the future in the food industry. It included various trips to abattoirs and farms - the field trips and practical lectures have been my favourite parts of the course, which has a great balance between academic and practical skills and knowledge.”

The 22-year-old spent her work placement year with MMUK, in Cambridgeshire. “The company supplies citrus fruit, grapes and flowers to M&S, and I worked as a quality controller to gain experience, and then moved into operations and packaging department. It has given me good experience to take into a graduate job.”

Emma plans to work within the dairy sector once she has graduated, and believes her degree will stand her in good stead. “It’s important to have a formal qualification, preferably at higher education level, as it shows your academic capabilities. I think my experiences here and my qualification will help in my future a great deal, especially as Harper Adams is highly thought of in the industry.”
