Clearing and Adjustment

Applying through clearing

Places are available at Harper Adams University for students applying through UCAS Clearing or Adjustment - the first step is to chat to the admissions team for advice.

You will need to have your UCAS ID and/or Clearing number to hand when you call, so we can view your UCAS application online during the call. You also need to have all your qualifications to hand, including those just been awarded. Our dedicated team will discuss the course you are interested in with you, and will go through your qualifications and work experience to determine if you are suitably qualified for the course. You can read about all of our degree courses here.

They will be able to put you directly through to a member of the course team if required, for a more in-depth discussion about courses that interest you. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have about the University in general.

In most cases, you will receive a decision during the phone call.

Am I eligible to apply through Clearing? How do I apply?

Clearing is an extension of the main UCAS application process, where eligible applicants contact universities to discuss their suitability for places that are still available.

If you have already applied to university you will be able to check your eligibility by logging into UCAS Track and looking at your choices information; if all your choices are closed (either through being withdrawn, declined or rejected) you will see the option to 'add a Clearing choice' and you will be assigned a Clearing number.

If you are unsure, we are more than happy to help you to check your status. Note: if you have only applied for one course during the main UCAS cycle, you will need to contact UCAS to pay the remainder of the application fee to be eligible for Clearing. You need to then contact your desired universities to discuss places before adding a Clearing choice on UCAS track

If you have not made an application in the main cycle you can still make an initial application in Clearing, but you will still need to contact universities directly to discuss places and options before adding a Clearing choice on UCAS track

If you have not already completed a UCAS application, you will need to do this before any place can be confirmed through Clearing, but you can still contact us to discuss your options.

Can I apply through Adjustment?

Have you done better than you expected? Then Adjustment might be for you and we are keen to hear from you.

Adjustment is a UCAS process which allows applicants who have exceeded their firm choice offer to make enquiries for courses elsewhere. If you have aspirational choices which you have not previously considered, and you meet the requirements, now is the chance for you to take a look at what is available.

To use Adjustment, you must register for it on UCAS Track. Track will give you information so you can assess whether you definitely meet the eligibility criteria. Registering for Adjustment will have no effect on your UF choice and if you do not find an alternative during the Adjustment window, you will be able to join your UF choice as normal.

All the Clearing vacancies at Harper Adams University are also available to Adjustment applicants.

For more information on Adjustment please refer to the UCAS website.

How soon will I be offered a place?

Where possible, a decision will be made on your application straight away. If this is not possible we will give you an indication of when you will hear back from us before the end of the call. We understand that Clearing can be a pressured time for some applicants, so we will endeavor to make a decision as quickly as we can.

If we are able to offer you a place, you will be advised to click the 'add a Clearing Choice' button and to enter the details of the course.

If you are an A level student you will not be able to do this until the Clearing referral window opens at 3pm on Thursday 15th August. (UCAS delay the opening of the Clearing referral window for A level students, to allow all applicants in Clearing the opportunity to make enquiries and make more informed decisions.) This will then send your UCAS application to us electronically for us to check and confirm your offer of a place. You will be given a deadline to do this, so please do it as soon as possible to ensure the place offered remains available.

Once this is complete we will confirm the place to you in writing and with this you will receive all the information required to commence studies here at Harper Adams University, including joining instructions and information about accommodation and enrolment.

Clearing Plus

Clearing Plus is a UCAS system which works on an algorithm and takes information to make recommendations of courses which, based on your information, you may be interested in. While this may be useful for some applicants, we recommend that all applicants still use the UCAS Clearing Course Search functions to see all the courses which may be available to them, rather than a sub-set. If you see a Harper Adams University course in your Clearing Plus recommendations, you are more than welcome to refer your application to us in that way, but we would much rather have a conversation with you on the phone to explore your options for joining us.

Entry requirements

We are mainly looking for applicants who meet the published entry requirements on our course pages. However, we are willing to consider applicants who are a 'near-miss', particularly if they have relevant work experience or other attributes.

No candidate should click to ”add a clearing choice“ on UCAS until they have spoken to a university and been offered a place on a course. Attempting to add a choice before being offered a place could result in your application being frozen until it is released, meaning you miss out on Clearing or Adjustment opportunities

Clearing self release

UCAS now provides applicants with the ability to release themselves into Clearing without having to speak to their Firm Choice Institution. We recommend that any applicant considering this option contact the relevant institution to discuss their options. You should also ensure that you understand the implications of releasing yourself from a Firm Choice course offer.
