The Eric Gardener Memorial Fund

Please note: Applications for this scholarship are now closed, for more information please contact the Development Trust Office.

In 1972 the Horticultural Industry subscribed to a fund in memory of Eric Gardener C.B.E. who for many years was very involved with the National Farmers Union (NFU).

The Eric Gardener Memorial Fund aims to improve British Horticulture mainly by promoting, encouraging and supporting education, research and experimental or development work.

The fund has supported a wide range of projects. It has helped those attending conferences and studies both at home and abroad. It has given money for the promotion of horticulture as a career and even helped to encourage the consumption of fruit and vegetables.

Our last award was given to a student doing PhD research on the propagation phase of strawberry production who attended an International Strawberry Symposium in Quebec in 2016.

If anyone is interested in applying for funding for a suitable activity they should write to:

The Secretary of the Eric Gardener Memorial Fund
Agriculture House
