The course will equip graduates with the knowledge and applied understanding of food engineering, as well as the practical skills, needed to develop successful careers within the food industry.
Food and Drink Advanced Engineers will have roles across food and drink organisations, from infrastructure, asset care, production management and process development and work closely with a range of other engineers, functions and managers in their own company and interact with external equipment and ingredient providers. They contribute to business strategy and performance as leaders of teams. Food and Drink Advanced Engineers require core knowledge, skills and behaviours and specialist knowledge and skills for mechanical, automation or production engineering.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will achieve a BEng(Hons) Food Engineering degree. Following the successful completion of an integrated End Point Assesment, Work-Based Project and Technical Interview you be deemed to have met the Degree Apprenticeship standard.
This apprenticeship follows the Food and Drink Advanced Engineer standard.
Apprentices require three A levels at Grade B or higher, their equivalent (in UCAS points) or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a related discipline. Current employees who already have experience in the industry and would like to become an apprentice can discuss enrolment with our team of specialists. Apprentices must have the right to work in England.
Apprentices without GCSE English and Maths (A*-C or 9 - 4) or equivalent will need to achieve this level prior to enrolment. This can be funded separately and taken at a local college or provider.

This course is accredited by the Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE), and MEng graduates are eligible for initial registration for Chartered Engineering status. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) describes an Incorporated Engineer as an applications-based engineer who works with the technology that is available, while a Chartered Engineer specialises in analysis, creating the technology of tomorrow.
Apprenticeship roles may result in jobs such as Food and Drink Factory Engineering Manager, Food and Drink Process Engineering Manager, Food and Drink Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Food and Drink Reliability Manager and Food and Drink Project Engineering Manager, Food Control Process Engineer, Systems Engineer, Manufacturing Production Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer.
