Governor Profile

David Llewellyn began his University career in the Estates Department at Queen Mary College, where he was involved in the early stages of the estate planning associated with Queen Mary’s merger with Westfield College.  After a further spell as an Assistant Registrar, David left Queen Mary to set up the new administrative structure for the Law School at King’s College London, where he worked with some of the UK’s leading academics in the field and was engaged in early rounds of teaching quality assessment and the national research assessment exercise.

David left King’s College in 1994, to become the Secretary of the Institute of Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital, London.  During this period the Institute, a research-intensive postgraduate medical school, was actively involved in recruiting researchers from the USA, and developing new areas of medical research such as studies in the use of functional MRI.  In addition to providing strategic support to the Dean, David oversaw a series of complex building developments and the merger of the Institute with King’s College.

David joined Harper Adams in August 1998 as the Director of Corporate Affairs and Clerk to the Governors.  In this role he helped implement a wide range of projects and developments across administrative and academic areas of the University College; worked as a consultant on higher education strategic planning in an agricultural institution in Brazil; and undertook research on UK higher education governance with the support of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.  David took over as Principal of Harper Adams University College in September 2009.

David is a graduate of University College London, has a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning (Birkbeck College, University of London) and a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) in Higher Education Management from the University of Bath.  He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Agricultural Engineers.
