Dr Joe Roberts is an applied entomologist with a PhD in invertebrate chemical ecology from Harper Adams University (UK) whose expertise sits at the interface of biology, chemistry and agriculture.
Dr Joe Roberts has a varied research portfolio that ranges from studying insect behaviour to developing artificial intelligence powered monitoring tools and quantifying pesticide use through updated metrics. The primary focus of this portfolio is to better understand plant-insect interactions and develop novel crop protection tools that are compatible with the principles of integrated pest management to reduce synthetic insecticide use. This works toward helping achieve Goal 2 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals: End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Nutrition and Promote Sustainable Agriculture.
