Martin graduated with an honours degree in microbiology and virology from Warwick University before qualifying as a Master Brewer with Bass plc and managing 3 breweries. During four years as Operations Director for Britvic Soft Drinks, he worked on modern manufacturing practices with PepsiCo and studied at Stanford Business School. Returning to Bass as Production Director, Martin was responsible for eight breweries, a large malting operation and significant annual purchases of malting barley and hops. The business was absorbed into the global brewer Molson Coors bringing opportunities to work internationally including providing technical oversight for breweries in S.E.Asia.
With responsibility over many years for large numbers of people in a fast changing industry, Martin developed an enduring interest in organisational development, leadership techniques and cultural change. At industry level, he chaired the research agency Brewing Research International for ten years and later the Brewers Research and Education Fund which was governed by the Worshipful Company of Brewers where he was Master in 2008 and served as a school governor.
Today he works as a non-executive director for the international sensory training business, FlavorActiV, and as an Independent Trustee for the Mitchells and Butlers Pension Plans. Martin is married with three grown up daughters and has lived near Newport in Shropshire for 30 years.
