Information for Staff

If you would like a quick update on changes in library resources or have never had a library induction please contact us and we will be happy to arrange an individual session to suit you.

Changes to Library systems 1 August 2019

  • You no longer need to renew your own books. All items are issued for 7 days in the first instance, then renew automatically each day. The items are always due back in 7 days until someone else requests the item or you have had the item for six months. If someone places a request on an item you will receive an automated email to inform you and you will need to return it by the due date to avoid a £1 per day fine.
  • You are now entitled to borrow to have up to 30 items on loan at a time.

Inter-library Loans

If we do not have access to an article or book which you need we will do our best to obtain it. Read more about the service in our guide  You can make your request online:

Suggest books for purchase

Please do let us know of any books which would be useful for us to purchase, either email us or use the online suggestion form.

In order to fulfil student demand we need to know about books you suggest people use in assignments as well as those on reading lists. Please do let us know as soon as you can so that we can ensure that the students have what they need.

Copyright

For advice on copyright please read our Copyright guide for academic staff.

Reading Lists online

Reading Lists are easy to create and manage. Training is available through the library. Alternatively you can request that the library manages your lists, in this case you will have to notify us throughout the year of any amendments you require.

Once created, reporting and statistical analysis can be used to show how your lists are being used.

Digitisation

If you are going to recommend that many students read a small portion of a book or a particular journal article we can upload an electronic copy of a key text onto the Learning Hub if it is covered by our copyright licence. Digitisation allows single chapters or 10% of a book to be uploaded to learning hub modules. This gives students easier access to our resources and in more digestible amounts. You can place requests for the digitisation of our printed material using the following link:

You will be required to register as a new user on the initial request. Further details on how to register are found below:

Keeping up to date with new journal content

Zetoc is a service provided by the British Library which provides you with the latest tables of contents of journals. You need to login with your Harper password details. The service works best if you use Firefox or Chrome instead of Internet Explorer.
