Finding books and journal articles

Whether you want to find a book, an online journal article or other information start your search on Find it @ Harper.

If you want to know more about using journal articles in your work check out the Introducing Journals Guide

Google Scholar is also a good place to search for articles. You can also just use it to search for case law.

  • Development Control Practice - guide to the planning process useful for anyone working with applications, appeals, court cases and development plans.
  • Digimap - a mapping tool which allows you to adapt and annotate Ordnance Survey maps.
  • Estates Gazette Radius Data Exchange - online news, research and information service for the commercial property market.
  • iSurv - from RICS it includes contains full text information and documents on valuation, property, surveying, planning and construction, including the Red Book It also includes the 2013 RICS Rural Land Market Survey  which is useful if you are interested in land prices. and trends.
  • Lexis Library - search for case law, Scammell & Densham, All England Law Reports, Estates Gazette Law Reports as well as many other leading law and tax resources.
  • Access to Law- list of 26 sites offering various legal documentation. Some are subscription services we don't have access to, but many are free like Lands Tribunal: Search for Decisions

Reading Lists Online

Check out lecturer recommended books, journals and websites on Reading Lists Online. Search by module code/title or just a keyword such as 'law'

Useful websites

  • BAILLI - British and Irish case law and legislation, European Union case law, Law Commission reports, and other law-related British and Irish material
  • Legislation - searchable database of all UK acts. Includes Scotland, Ireland and Wales, managed by the National Archives.

Referencing

Try using RefWorks to help manage your references. References can be imported direct from both Find it @ Harper and Google Scholar. If you want to learn how to use it, contact us or visit the Referencing page on our website.

There are other tools available, but this is the one we subscribe to (pay for) and has a template for the Harper referencing style.

Off campus access

You can access most of our resources off campus by logging in here by using your Harper credentials. If you do this before you search or try to access e-resources, you will be automatically logged in to things you can access.
