    Student Support

    Academic support

Learner support includes both the Learner Support and the Academic Guidance teams. Support includes development of study strategies and guidance on disability support. All students are welcome to discuss support.

To help us give you the best support we ask you to fill in a Learner Support registration form before your course begins to let us know if you are dyslexic, or have any medical conditions/other disabilities. If you have any queries you are welcome to call or email the Learner Support team for advice. If you are not sure if you have dyslexia – or previous tests have been inconclusive – you can take a screening test when you arrive, and talk through your needs in greater detail with our experienced Learner Support staff.

Equally, if you are already studying at Harper Adams University, then we encourage you to contact us if you have not already discussed support, or would like to have a screening..

    Dyslexia support

If you are dyslexic – or think you might be – we can help. People with dyslexia think and learn differently from others but we have the tools to support you.

    Help for dyslexic students includes:

    • Free dyslexia screening.
    • Exam support such as extra time or a scribe – someone to write down the answers you dictate.
    • Assistive software on student access computers across the campus.
    • Assistive technology to borrow, such as laptops with assistive software and digital Dictaphones.
    • Dyslexia assessments on campus with a qualified assessor.
    • Assessment of your study needs.
    • Practical help to apply for the Disabled Students' Allowance.
    • Individual study skills and support with dyslexia qualified tutors.
    • A dyslexia scholarship scheme.

    Dyslexia scholarship

Undergraduate students may be eligible to apply for help towards the cost of a dyslexia assessment through our Dyslexia Scholarship Scheme. Based on your household income you could claim up to £260.

Postgraduate students will receive a contribution through the scheme of £150.

An instalment plan over the current academic year can also be arranged in agreement with Learner Support at Harper Adams University.

    Other financial assistance

Students with dyslexia may be eligible for support through the Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA) to help meet the extra costs of studying that you may face and allow you to study on an equal basis with other students. The allowance is not income dependant.

We recommend you apply before you arrive so you can start your course with all the support you need.
