Inter Library Loans
This service is available to undergraduate students doing their final major project / dissertation and to postgraduate students and staff. If we do not have a particular book, it is usually possible for us to borrow it for you, or obtain a photocopy of a journal article, through the British Library. Inter Library Loan Request Forms are available at the Welcome Hub.
Undergraduate students can apply for up to ten requests free of charge, but will have to pay for any subsequent requests. Charges for additional requests are currently £8.35 for a journal article photocopy, £13.15 for a book and £4.00 for a renewal of a book.
More information is available from the Welcome Hub.
Access To Other Academic Libraries
SCONUL Access is a reciprocal service supported by most of the higher education libraries of the UK and Ireland. It was created from two existing schemes, SCONUL Research Extra and UK Libraries Plus and carries forward the basic principles of these schemes.
SCONUL Access provides borrowing privileges for most:
- academic staff on open or fixed term contracts
- postgraduate research students registered for a PhD, MPhil or similar qualification
- part-time, distance learning and placement students
- full-time postgraduates
SCONUL Access also provides for a reference only service for most:
- full-time undergraduate students
- staff of a few higher education libraries not participating in the reciprocal borrowing arrangements
External Membership
Any member of the public may use the library for reference purposes without charge. They should make themselves known at the Welcome Hub on each visit.
Any member of the public wishing to borrow material must apply to join the library as an External Member. There are several membership categories available with varying charges, depending on the person's association with Harper Adams. Further information and an external membership form are available from the Welcome Hub.
Library Induction Tours
Guided tours of the library and its facilities are provided for all new undergraduate students at the beginning of the academic year.
This service is also available upon request throughout the year. It is especially recommended for new staff, postgraduate students and part-time and distance learning students.
Database Training
Training sessions in the use of databases are available upon request throughout the year. These are especially recommended for new and returning students.
Study Rooms
A Silent study room is provided upstairs in the library and students are requested to respect the needs of others that require silence to work and study.
Five Group study rooms are also available upstairs. These are designated for students to discuss work or work collaboratively as a group.
Two of the rooms can be booked up to a week in advance for two hours at the Welcome Hub. You need to be at least a group of three.
Photocopying
The library has four self-service combined printers and photocopiers(MFD) - two downstairs, two upstairs. These are operated by swiping your library card. The charges are 5p per A4 copy for students and 6p for external users. Accounts can be credited using the Value Loader opposite the Welcome Hub.
All photocopying is subject to current copyright legislation.

There is a self-service binding machine located opposite the Welcome Hub. Binding combs and covers are available for purchase. Please ask for assistance if you are not sure how to use the machine.
