Today, 11 October, we remember Francis Moxon Allen who died on this date in 1916.

He was born on 25 January 1893, to Mr F. B. and Mrs. A. Allen, of The Knowle, Lichfield.  His father was a farmer.  Francis attended Lichfield Grammar School before entering Harper Adams Agricultural College on 16 Jan 1911 with financial support from the Staffordshire Short Course Scholarship. He was awarded the Short Course Certificate on leaving 11 March 1911, aged 18.  His intended career was farming.

He is remembered with honour at the Thiepval Memorial (Pier and Face 8 A and 8 D)

The Thiepval Memorial commemorates more than 72,000 men of British and South African forces who died in the Somme sector before 20 March 1918 and have no known grave, the majority of whom died during the Somme offensive of 1916.
