Guillaume Franklin, second year Bsc (Hons) Agriculture student and recipient of the Green Lanes Farming scholarship.
“I applied for this scholarship and placement because it’s a young and growing business that is at the forefront of technological innovation. To achieve success in business I believe being a competitive industry leader is crucial. Achieving the scholarship at this exciting and dynamic time in UK agriculture is motivational”, says Guillaume, 19.
“The role also offers the opportunity for a career after my degree at Harper Adams University, which stood out compared to other placements. Achieving this attractive scholarship means a lot to me and provides an indication of my employment potential within the agricultural industry. I can’t wait to start in July on the farm and to learn new skills.”
For Guillaume, from Bidborough near Tunbridge Wells in Kent, choosing a course of study wasn’t hard. “I’m from a non-farming background but became interested in the Agricultural Industry from a young age growing up in Kent. I started first working on a small dairy farm and then a different range of farms giving me insight to the different sectors within the industry.
“I chose this undergraduate course at Harper Adams because it provides a broad view of the industry. In the future I aspire for a career in farm business management, allowing me to carry out a job that I’m passionate about as well as being able to make a difference.”
