Automotive Engineering student attends 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge National Finals
6 March 2019
Matthew Torok, a first year MEng Automotive Engineering student, is attending the UK national finals of the Land Rover 4X4 in Schools Technology Challenge. The two day event is taking place at the British Motor Musuem in Gaydon.
The teams, with pupils aged between eleven and nineteen, have entered their radio controlled four-wheel drive vehicle into the challenge which involves them navigating it through an off road test track. Matthew will be judging the challenge.
The Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge UK Champions are offered a £1000 scholarship to attend any of the Engineering courses on offer at Harper Adams University.
Matthew has taken his Applied Mechanical system, pictured, which he created for the Problem Solving module. "The machine is a rube Goldberg machine. It is designed to transmit motion inefficiently across the board. It is one of the big projects for the first years, and is designed to teach us about the approach to problem solving as well as letting us take responsibility for our own learning. The machine is not compulsory and you have to make it in your free time."
