Megan Herriot, second year Agriculture with Farm Business Management student and recipient of the Safety Revolution Scholarship.
“The decision to apply for this placement was an easy one, as being part of a team to try and reduce the number of fatalities and injuries that occur on farm will be very rewarding. Increasing the awareness and importance of having health and safety procedures within agriculture is necessary for the future of the industry itself. The range of customers that I will be introduced to will not only broaden my experience but also give me confidence, giving me the skills for a future career”, says Megan, 20.
“I would like to thank the staff at Safety Revolution for awarding me the scholarship. Having a year of placement with the company with contribute to gaining experience within the sector to become a health and safety consultant within the firm.
“My background involves mainly sheep, taking part in lambing my sister’s flock of ewes and helping out a local farmer when asked. For two years I attended an agricultural course at Cannington College in Somerset, which broadened my knowledge of the dairy sector but mostly sparked an interest in the business side of agriculture.”
For Megan, from Wiveliscombe, Somerset, it’s all about balancing a commitment to her studies with a few outside interests. “Getting into university and achieving a first class in my first year is something that I am proud of, and I am aiming for similar results in the following years. During time off from university, I go beating at my local shoot and work my spaniel.”
