After weeks of emails and phone calls, I can finally say I've secured a brilliant placement for the Easter holidays. I've been given the opportunity to work at a local nature reserve which is also a SSSI called Chasewater.
The Harper careers team were so helpful, spending time with me transforming my CV from how it was in year 9 to a professional, degree level CV. Harper has helped me bulk it out as well, allowing me to be able to add all my module results on it so my potential employers know how I'm doing at university, as well as being able to put sideline qualifications on it. Qualifications like health and safety in an agricultural and horticultural environment was of great value, meaning that problems about insurance and health and safety aren't a barrier now! I'm really looking forward to the Easter holidays now and I really owe it to the support the careers team have gave me.
My worry was that my CV always looked a bit pathetic as I've never done any work experience or had an ecological based job (only working as a student ambassador), but they really supported me and helped me show myself in the best way possible. It evidently worked! Now I get to shadow the head ranger for my Easter holidays, looking at the conservation work he's undertaking. These are exciting times!
