If finance is a concern for you when starting university, there's plenty you can do about it! There are lots of part-time job opportunities both on campus and in the local area; working in the Student's Union Bar, or as a Student Ambassador, relief milking on a local dairy farm, or working in one of the pubs or shops in Newport.
Since my second term at Harper, I have been working as a Student Ambassador and it's been a great way to earn a bit of extra money when it's convenient for me. The role involves working on open days and interview afternoons - if you've been to visit you'll have seen us all in our bright blue and yellow tops leading campus tours. I know when I visited on an open day it was really helpful to speak to a student and get their perspective on university life, so I hope I can do the same for prospective students now!
The system for signing up to work as an ambassador is great, designed to be flexible around your academic and social life; you just sign up for events on days when you know you are free and there's no pressure. There are also other opportunities as an ambassador, like working as an online mentor for students looking at university options. It's a great way to develop your people skills, something to add to your CV, and a really easy way to make enough money to fund your social life! If you have any questions about working as a Student Ambassador please feel free to drop me a message through the homepage, and be sure to ask Ambassadors any questions you have about university life if you visit us here at Harper!
