Canadian experience for Harper graduate Elodie

    11 April 2019

Business Management with Marketing graduate Elodie Straker got a taste of agricultural practices in Canada and beyond, after being sponsored to attend the Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth conference in Edmonton.

Elodie, 22, received support from the Glendale Agricultural Society to attend the event, which took place in November last year and brought together over 300 attendees from across the commonwealth.

The trip gave Elodie a uniquely international perspective on current issues in agriculture, while also highlighting local expertise. Before the conference itself, delegates visited local farming businesses, including a cattle farm, a production facility making burgers for McDonald’s in Canada, and a grower of peppers and cucumbers.

“I met many fascinating individuals on the pre-tour and came away feeling inspired by the farmers in Alberta. Their passion for food production and producing the highest quantity of food is a sustainable manner, with the constant challenges of modern-day agriculture, was admirable. The hospitality we received from the Canadians was first class”, said Elodie, speaking to the Berwick Advertiser.
