Marshal Papworth scholars welcomed

Earlier this week, ten Marshal Papworth scholars were welcomed to Harper Adams University with a barbecue on Monday afternoon. The scholars, all from developing countries, are attending a ten week short course programme run by the Marshal Papworth Foundation. The course will cover sustainable modern agriculture and will enable the students to put their knowledge and skills to use when they return home.

This year, students have travelled from Ghana, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Malawi and Sri Lanka.

"The group consists of a mixture of Extension Officers and lead farmers, selected in country by the Marshal Papworth partner organisations, Self-Help Africa, Leprosy Mission, Tree-Aid and SOS Sahel.

Students will have Edmore Mashatise as course tutor - Harper’s very own lecturer in sub-Saharan and tropical agriculture. Ed has been instrumental in developing the collaboration with MPF and this new partnership with MPF fits in perfectly with the on-going work being conducted in Africa by Harper Adams University."

On the 10 week short course, they will learn vocational skills in animal and crop husbandry, machinery operations and IT, and will also study a Special Marshal Papworth module in small scale business management. Once completed, they will gain an Edexcel certified BTEC qualification.
