    Olivia Marshall's Food Science Summer School experience

    Olivia Marshall’s Harper Adams University journey is well underway, coming to the end of her first year studying BSc (Hons) Food Technology and Product Development. However, her transition from Leeds to Shropshire began in the summer of 2017 where she attended the Food Science Summer School.

    Having not had the opportunity to do a food technology related subject in A-Levels, the hands-on nature of the Summer School massively appealed to Olivia.

    Olivia said: “We did a lot in the development kitchen so it was quite hands-on. We were making lemon merengue pie using different ingredients in different parts so I enjoyed that. Getting in the kitchen and having a play was something I enjoyed.

    “I found the school through searching for different programmes when it came up. It totally reassured me that this was where I wanted to go. The lecturers I had at the summer school run my course now so you already have that connection.

    “The lecturers were fantastic because I just picked their brain and asked them lots of questions which made it for me. You get to ask questions you don’t get to ask on open days and get a feel of the lecturers and what they’re here for.”

    Despite not being 100% sure, Olivia is looking to go into either consumer buying or product development. This has helped direct her choice to come to Harper Adams, being specialists in the area and offering a one-of-a-kind course.

    On choosing Harper Adams University, Olivia said: “The course is really good and they don’t offer it anywhere else in the UK. The Summer School gave a feel of the campus and it’s close-knit which is what I wanted.”
