The teams taking part in a charity bike ride in memory of our former student George Crawford, who sadly died last year, arrived at Harper Adams University yesterday.
The teams reached their finish line outside the Welly Inn having set off from George’s home town of Melrose, Scotland. The challenge saw them bike over 250 miles across four days in aid of the George Crawford Legacy Trust.
The teams were greeted by a wealth of support at the University with people waiting in numbers at the finish line to congratulate the riders.
The trust has a goal of raising around £100,000 to contribute for Riding for the Disabled, along with helping young people who are involved in rural and equestrian industries as they kick-start their careers. Examples of doing this are supplying grants to support budding equestrians to gain experience, or help support someone who's suffered injury or had an accident, collaborating with Jack Berry House - already making a £2900 contribution to the work done by the Injured Jockeys Fund.
Funds raised at George's funeral enable the purchase of Alfie, a 14hh bay gelding, for the Borders Branch of RDA, along with some funding to help him settle and become a hard-working member of the team.
If you would like to make a donation to the George Crawford Legacy Trust, please send it direct to the Trust bank account at: Iain Smith & Partners WS: Sort Code 83-20-19 Account No. 00288032 or to George Crawford Legacy Trust, Clock House, Pavilion, Melrose, TD6 9BN.
Donations are still welcome through the Just Giving pages of riders that completed the challenge:
