Student working to promote women in agriculture

    24 September 2019

Sophie Bell, 20, appeared on the Farmers Guardian website in a Young Farmer Focus blog detailing her journey of promoting women and the opportunities available to them in agriculture. The blogs give enthusiastic young people involved within the agricultural sector the chance to share their stories.

Sophie, who is studying BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Animal Science, started her online presence with an Instagram page where she would share photos of her day to day activities on her home farm. Her following has grown to 9,000 followers and Sophie now blogs for agricultural news companies, works with clothing companies, and has also been working with a company on a project which will soon be on the market.

The student from County Cavan, Ireland, believes that women's involvement in agriculture doesn't get recognised enough and this is something she wants to change. She also wants to make the prospect of studying for a degree in agriculture less daunting for girls as this is something she is asked about frequently.
