National School Meals Week Tour comes to Harper Adams University

On Friday, Harper Adams University was the second stop of the National School Meals Week Roadshow in collaboration with LACA. The roadshow is traveling the country to showcase the variety of healthy school meals on offer to children and showcase their quality and benefits through the Taste for Yourself initiative.

Neil Porter, the LACA Chair of Events, commented, “With local suppliers being sourced wherever possible, fresh, healthy and nutritious produce is being consumed in schools on a daily basis and underlines the importance to local economies of the school food industry.”

Identified as a leading specialist with our dairy unit, the menu focused on dairy and the ways it can help young children develop. The touring kitchen provided tasty school meal options cooked by Steven Cross, the LACA School Chef of the Year. The food was served to children from four local primary schools: Sir Alexander Fleming Primary, Wombridge Primary, Ladygrove Primary and Church Aston Infant School. Along with this, Telford and Wrekin’s mayor, Steve Reynolds, also attended, talking to the children and getting involved in the kitchen.

The pop up kitchen was placed beside one of Harper Adams’ KO Machines tractors, where Steven even jumped in for a picture.

The event was a great success and the children thoroughly enjoyed tasting for themselves the healthy school meals on offer, demonstrating the important role of diet in our education system.
