Yesterday was Harper Adams University’s final full undergraduate Open Day in 2019, inviting a cohort of potential new students to find out about degrees that matter and how they can get involved. It might have been a brisk and breezy day but our staff and students were out welcoming families to campus.
Nicky Hunter, Senior Lecturer, Crop and Environmental Sciences, spoke of the great success an open day can have for engaging with prospective students. "We've seen so many potential new students show their interest in studying at Harper Adams. It's great to see and hear their enthusiasm and, by answering their questions, we hope they feel fully prepared to take on their degree of choice.”
Open days seek to highlight not only the resources at a students disposal but also to give them a feel for the campus itself and how they can fit into student life here.
Likewise, current students also see the benefits of talking to potential new students about the degree courses on offer. Alison, who was working on the tractor-trailer tours, commented, “It's a great way to explore everything Harper has to offer, especially with current students there to answer questions. The opportunity to also meet lecturers and see them in action is a clear showcase of how good our modules are.”
On the day, there were lectures in a variety of disciplines from all different courses including the new Environmental Land Management degree through to Veterinary Physiotherapy and Agriculture. Along with this, there were many professional services stands in the Library, with staff talking to attendees about student support, finance, and admissions. Campus and accommodation tours enabled future students to see teaching laboratories, the dairy and the Student’s Union as well as the halls they would be living in.
The day was a great success with visitors finding the experience informative and engaging. If you would like to explore campus yourself and find out more about a degree that matters to you, you can register to attend our Open Campus Event on Monday 16th December 2019.
