Today is the launch of the Service Children's Progression (SCiP) Alliance with Harper Adams, bringing together 100 children from Forces families and helping to improve their educational outcomes. The aim is to help these children make confident transitions into further and higher education, developing pathways to future careers.
As part of our initiative with the Widening Participation Collaborative Outreach Group (WPCG), we are leading this launch in partnership with Keele University, Staffordshire University, University of Derby, University of Oxford (Somerville College), University of Chester and Reaseheath College. Together, this will create a joint West Midlands hub where the children can attend interactive sessions, learn about the hub, and what FE and HE can do to help these children with their future career paths that follow. With each university collaborating together, we can create a structured environment to encourage students to see the benefits of higher education and how Harper Adams can offer them a degree that matters.
Along with this, 2019-20 is the Year of the Service Child Voice, a programme ran by SCiP, to investigate and research through a series of activities the voice of Service children in education. By combining this research with our new hub, we have a greater ability to establish and sustain alliances with institutions to see a strategy for progression.
We hope the launch will be a perfect opportunity for the children to see how higher education can form pathways to future prospects and look forward to the future success of the alliance and hub.
