Harper Adams student Ellie Houston has been named Best Equine Advisor at the Animal Medicines Training Regulatory Authority (AMTRA) Industry Awards 2020.
The BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing with Small Animal Rehabilitation student was surprised and delighted with her award, being named the recipient for her excellent exam results throughout the academic year to beome an AMTRA SQP (Suitably Qualified Person).
"The prize came as a huge shock as I wasn’t even aware there was a prize for receiving good results when I initially sat the exam. I am extremely humbled and grateful to have received the award from AMTRA, especially as the prize was a lovely engraved cup, a framed certificate and a very generous monetary gift.
"I’d like to thank Harper for the opportunity to broaden my horizons by undertaking this course to become an Animal Medicines Advisor.
"At Harper there are outstanding onsite facilities available for veterinary students and the overall support from staff members - both the veterinary team and student support - is second to none. They will go above and beyond to ensure you get the help you need. Overall, choosing Harper, even though it’s a long way from my home in Scotland, was the best decision I’ve made.
"My priority now is to complete my placement year and final year, and hopefully qualify as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2021."
The awards were given at the AHDA gala dinner held at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham, celebrating the 35th AHDA conference. The event hosted 250 industry specialists and budding students. The awards each had a runner-up and an overall winner for each catagory, recognising the future of the industry. Ellie received the Battles Cup and a cheque for £200 as her prize.
