Since its launch in the summer of 2019, Harper Adams University Senior Lecturer, Andrew Black has seen the Grow Your Future project go from strength to strength.
Over the last few months, Andrew has secured several endorsements of the project and its website. The featured ‘friends’ of the site include established and recognised bodies in both the land management and the overall agricultural field including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), National Farmers Union (NFU) and, most recently, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). These relations not only enable sharing of key knowledge, they also help to create industry links for the future generations of chartered surveyors.
Of the recent endorsements, Andrew said: “I’ve been overwhelmed by the level of support for this ground-breaking project and we are now also seeing links to our website being embedded in a variety of careers advice pages and also those of surveying firms.
“I will know the project has been a true success when the first student enrols on a degree course who, before Grow Your Future, had never even heard of chartered surveying.”
The project is highlighting the work of rural chartered surveyors and sharing the exciting work they do to encourage others to pursue a career in the field. As the work is incredibly broad and varied with excellent career opportunities, there is a real opportunity for growth in a profession that is being brought to the forefront by the Agriculture Bill. People are seeking to understand more about their land and how it can become more sustainable; chartered surveyors will be the leading voice on how to achieve this.
The project website itself hosts a diverse range of content, from video interviews to case studies and even an interactive game, so prospective chartered surveyors can gain a flavour for the industry as well as begin making industry links through other students and companies.
