Continuing our series of “meet the team” blogs, today we meet another member of the Food Technology and Innovation Department, technician Robert Boffey.
A Harper Adams alumnus strong ties to the Agri-food Supply Chain, Robert prides himself in grass roots approach to the gate to plate process.
After completing his undergraduate degree within the food department at Harper Adams, he joined one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of sport nutrition products as a specifications writer and animal products export manager, progressing up to Quality Lead.
He then expanded his product catalogue into the ingredients supply chain sector as a hygiene pest control and lead quality auditor. Following this he was asked to join one of the UKs biggest salad growers to support their conversion from greenhouse grown salads to hydroponics before he returned to Harper Adams as a technician supporting teaching and learning.
Robert says: “I am particularly interested in systematic Food Safety and quality management and food hygiene in the areas of dairy product processing, functional foods and sports nutrition and fresh produce. I am also skilled in environmental management, food innovation and production practices.
“The food industry is a great interlocking industry with scope and support to energise anyone with a passion for food. It offers jobs for life for those who wish to pursue them along with the interchangeable skills that can be used in many sectors. Food is definitely an industry that just keeps on growing!”
