Agribusiness Leader of Tomorrow Award presented to Lucy Thompson
25 January 2021

Lucy Thompson, 22, has been awarded the Agribusiness Leader of Tomorrow Award for her success on the BSc (Hons) Agri-Business degree pathway. The award, in conjunction with NFU Mutual Careers, annually celebrates the student with the highest grades on the course, showcasing their commitment to their studies and continued desire to learn.
Beginning this pathway 2016, Lucy explained how she discovered Harper Adams and made the decision to study with us. She said: “I chose to study at Harper Adams after having a keen interest in agriculture, growing up on a mixed beef, sheep and arable farm in Lincolnshire. I also particularly enjoyed business at Sixth Form. I attended the open day to look at BSc (Hons) Agri-Business and I knew it would be perfect for me.”
Over her time at Harper, Lucy has undertaken a wide variety of projects including spending her placement year at John Deere as their Sales and Marketing Intern; writing her dissertation on food product packaging and its influencing imagery; and looking after and expanding her own flock of Zwartble sheep on her home farm.
Reflecting on her experience, Lucy commented: “My time at Harper has been incredible and the highlight has to be the people I have met, both staff and students. I have made friends for life from all over the country. I have unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime!
“It has also opened many opportunities that I didn’t even know existed. The highlight of my course was the amazing trip to the Netherlands and the University to Holland, visiting farms and agricultural businesses. Visiting the floating dairy farm in Rotterdam was certainly fascinating.”
Following graduation, Lucy is now working as a Digital Marketing Specialist at Case IH, a role she discovered through talking to CNH at the Harper Adams Careers Fair. Her job sees her running the company Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, developing creative ideas through filming and photography.
