Studying in his first year at Harper Adams, Louis Rose is learning the key teachings of his BSc (Hons) Rural Enterprise and Land Management degree. Here, Louis shared how he discovered Harper was the place for him and where he envisions his future in the sector.
“Having always been in contact with or worked within the sphere of agriculture and land management,” Louis explained, “To me, Harper Adams has always been the go to place for attaining a ‘real world’ and high quality degree; meaning it was Harper or nothing!
“A particular factor when deciding to go to Harper Adams was the 98.8% of students graduating go straight into employment.”
Before considering a degree at the institution, Louis had attended campus to spend time with friends already studying their chosen courses. He said: “Having already visited Harper Adams a couple of times at the start of the previous academic year to see friends, it was very clear to me that attending the next ‘in person’ open day was a must.
“The open day itself was the turning point, where I became fully committed to joining the next academic year.”
Louis was most drawn to the REALM course, a diverse route that can direct students into the world of agriculture - like the experience Louis gained from his home background - or towards other land management led career paths.
Greatly enjoying the variety of his studies, Louis commented: “The Rural Enterprise and Land Management degree gives us the toolkit for tackling the future challenges of land management, whilst fulfilling the present opportunities.
“Upon graduating from Harper Adams, I aim to secure an Estate Management role, whilst working towards my chartership with the RICS and Professional Membership with the IAgrM.
“Upon completion of my Chartership, I aim to return to Harper Adams, to enrol onto a part time Masters degree in Agricultural Sciences and Production Systems. This will further develop my knowledge and understanding of how regenerative agricultural practises can be applied to the land which I’ll be managing.”
