Stephen Evans, a first-year student has discussed with That’s Farming the journey he has undertaken from a non-agricultural background to studying at Harper Adams and winning a once in a lifetime scholarship.
In the piece, Stephan, 19, details how he has faced some stigma due to not owning a farm or coming from a farming background, but, pursued his passion for livestock regardless and has aided his future career in the industry by studying for a degree in Agriculture.
After initially preferring dairy farming the Northern Irishman admits that once he was introduced to pig farming at HAU and a local pig farm, he was converted and applied for the annual ForFarmers Pig Industry Scholarship.
Stephan was awarded the scholarship and will spend his year in industry with the company in its pig department experiencing the four areas of their pig business.
The county Tyrone native also confesses that winning the scholarship has been highlight of his university career thus far.
