6 September 2021
Susan Howarth, who is a Principal Lecturer in Veterinary Nursing at Harper Adams, has hosted a podcast discussing different CertAVN qualifications and career opportunities they provide as part of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
In the podcast Susan, who is also the Programme Manager of Advanced Veterinary Nursing, spoke to current and past Harper students, George Aspey, Nathan Prince and Katherine Hart, who is also a Veterinary Nursing Lecturer at the university.
As well as discussing how the courses could aid the industry, the podcast also showcases the specific reasons why each interviewee chose to study their chosen CertAVN route.
Harper Adam’s currently offers four CertAVN routes:
Surgical, which allows nurses to develop the skills needed so that they can provide care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.
The Oncology route provides nurses with advanced understanding and skills in palliative management for patients undergoing treatment for neoplasia.
The Cert AVN in Anaesthesia will further develop and extend knowledge of the anatomical structures and physiological processes relevant to anaesthesia and help nurses to better care for anaesthetic cases in practice.
Lastly, the Analgesia and Pain Management route, which develops a student’s ability to assess pain and synthesise appropriate multimodal pain management plans for veterinary patients.
