“I only went to two university open days and one of them was Harper’s - I didn’t have to look around anywhere else because I didn’t want to go anywhere other than Harper Adams,” says 19-year-old BSc (Hons) Zoology and Environmental Management student, Gabbie Fleury
“The university was just the right place for me. I know this sounds cliché, but I stepped on-site and it felt like home.
“I also loved that there was a farm on campus because having animals on our doorstep is beneficial to a Zoology student like me.”
Gabbie, now in her second year, says her favourite module of her degree so far has been Behaviour Welfare and Ethics but it’s the trips and opportunities that the Lincolnshire native has enjoyed the most.
“Since Covid-19 regulations have eased we’ve been on so many trips and the campus’ rural location means we can go out and do lots of fieldwork in the different habitats that surround us.”

"Harper Adams truly excels in providing enrichment opportunities and makes the most of what it has got and no other university can offer that.”
It is not just outside the classroom where Harper Adams excels. Student Ambassador Gabbie adds: “The lecturers are genuinely happy to help - if you are struggling and need something explaining ten times, they will sit with you and go through it until you understand.”
Gabbie, from Grantham, Lincolnshire, works as a team leader at the campus pub, The Welly Inn, and is on the Harper Adams Students’ Union Executive, but still finds time for an active university social life.
“I’ve made so many friends since coming to Harper Adams that trying to get us all in the same room is like herding cats,” says Gabbie.
“I’m also a member of the Harper Adams Biological Society, but the social scene here on campus is so varied…there is something for everyone, from the traditional hockey and rugby to gaming and music.”
Gabbie is only in the second year of studies, but she is already thinking about her future career.
“I absolutely love big cats and exotic animals, and I want to either become a lecturer myself, or work in stopping the illegal wildlife trade.”
