A community race for Newport is set to return next month for the first time since the covid-19 pandemic – and will be welcomed to Harper Adams.
The annual Newport 10k is organised by the Newport Running Club and will take place at 11:00am on Sunday 30 April in and around Newport and Edgmond, including sections of public footpaths running over the Harper Adams campus and farm.
Starting and finishing at the historic Longford Hall, this scenic multi-terrain race takes runners across roads, fields and tracks of the surrounding countryside. This year’s race is the first since 2020 and organisers will be donating funds raised at the race to the Newport X-ray Appeal. The funds will help upgrade the equipment at the unit, which opened in July 2022 after the success of previous fundraising efforts.
Entry is £18 for unattached runners, whilst members of affiliated clubs get a £2 discount on the entry price. There will also be a fun run for children aged 3-14, starting at 10:00am. All finishers will receive a medal for participating.
Reader in Entomology at Harper Adams, Dr Tom Pope, is among those who will be talking part in ensuring the event runs smoothly.

He said: “As a member of the Newport and District Running Club I will be helping to marshal, ensuring that runners know where to go at each junction along the route.
“After being paused for three years, it is fantastic that the Newport 10K will return this year.”
