Friends and family have come together for a charity bike ride from Harper Adams to Ballynahinch in memory of a Harper Adams student.
In December 2022, Christopher Scurfield passed away unexpectedly while he was out on a sheep station in New Zealand, after graduating just a few months prior.
In his memory, a 250-mile charity cycle, #Cycle4Chris has been organised by Chris’ father, Andrew, and friend and fellow Harper Adams student Edward Painter.
Starting at Harper Adams on August 24, a group of his university classmates, members of his family and friends embarked yesterday on the challenge, heading to Holyhead, Anglesey.
The charity cycle, which has already seen more than £30,000 donated by supporters, will run over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with the next stop being Dublin by boat before then cycling to Ballynahinch in County Down, Northern Ireland.
Chris studied Agriculture with Farm Business Management during his time at Harper Adams and played in the University’s rugby team with his friends, including Edward.
The charity they have chosen to support is the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, which aims to alleviate the financial hardship of bereaved families repatriating the body (bodies) of loved one(s) who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances back to Ireland.
The family have been grateful for the support from the Trust, as JustGiving page reads: “The KBRT were excellent in offering their help and support to the Scurfield family during such a devastating time. Therefore, any donations that you make is greatly appreciated by us, allowing this worthwhile charity to carry on helping other families in their time of need.”
You can donate to their JustGiving page here and keep up to date on their journey through their Instagram page.
