Land, Property and Environment Careers Fair 2023 welcomes students and employers

    26 October 2023

The first of two annual Careers and Placement fairs has been held at Harper Adams University – with another set to follow in November.

The Land, Property and Environment Careers Fair, held on Tuesday, offered students the chance to meet businesses and organisations from across the land-based sector and beyond.

The day offers students the chance to talk to employers of all kinds about both opportunities for both their one-year industry placement and for careers once they graduate.

More than fifty employers, including major countrywide organisations such as the National Grid and National Trust were in attendance.

Careers Advisor and Service Manager Maria Simpson  believes the response of both students and employers to the Fair – and to the wider Harper Adams Careers Fair in November – are a testament to their ongoing reputation.

She said: “Our work with our students to help prepare them for their careers is year-round – one of the reasons we have taken the top spot in the UK for Career Prospects seven times in a row at the WhatUni Student Choice awards.

“This support is evident in the most recent Graduate Outcomes figures too, which show that 99.2 per cent of UK based undergraduates from Harper Adams are in work or further study fifteen month after they graduate.

“Events like this are important in building the strong relationships our students need for their future careers.

“For our students set to graduate, they are a chance to look at the opportunities out there or meet up with the employers who they may have done their placement with. It also helps their final year studies and research projects, as they can talk directly with employers about what is currently going on out there in industry.”

And Placement Office Manager Kathy Smith added: “I think these events are ones that employers like to attend, because they can see the value of speaking with students before they start their placement.

“For the same reason, I think the chance to discuss their placements beforehand is a real help for our students, too.”
