Summer Ball Committee raise money for Newport Community First Responders
17 July 2017

"As part of widening student participation within the community the Harper Adams University Students' Union Summer Ball Committee were asked by the Students Union to pick charitable causes to support throughout the year. For the committee members it was important that the causes we picked directly benefited the local community.
"After speaking with Newport Rotary Lite we learnt about the Newport Community First Responders Vehicle Appeal. As members of rural communities ourselves, the committee recognised the importance of a new and reliable first response vehicle and the difference which it would make within the local community, as well as to the first response volunteers.
"Through an organised street collection in Newport and a forgotten change collection at the summer ball we were able to raise £336.87 for the Newport First Responders which will help towards the conversion of the car into a first response vehicle.
"We've also been able to make a £250 contribution towards the Edgmond 1st Scouts 2017 Jamboree to Denmark thanks to the generosity of the Harper Adams University students at an auction of promises which was held at the half-time of the England Vs Ireland Rugby Nations game in March this year. This helped the Scouts group to represent Shropshire on a global level and develop new skills. In return the group very kindly offered two hours of their time to help us with litter picking the day after the ball.
On behalf of the Harper Adams University Students' Union Summer Ball Committee, I would like to thank all the students and the local community for supporting our efforts this past year." Charlotte Bolton, Public Liaison Officer HAUSU Summber Ball Committee 2016/17
