    Hedge planting for landscape recovery

    7 February 2025

Zoology students supported the Shropshire farming community and landscape nature recovery by planting a hedge on an upland farm North of Wentnor in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape.

They are pictured here planting a beech tree which will provide important additionality in terms of biodiversity as the hedge matures.

This hedge planting initiative is part of the Stepping Stones Project which aims to connect up the Stiperstones NNR and the Long Mynd SSSI.

This event was kindly organised by Paul O’Hagan and led by Alex Logan for the National Trust. Interestingly Alex works for ‘Caring for God’s Acre’ which is invested in managing biodiversity in churchyards and graveyards.

Thank you very much to Matt Betton, Kath Landles of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape and and Charlie Bell of the National Trust for this opportunity.
